This is the second Saint Cecilia Roman Catholic Church. This structure was built in 1920 after the original wooden building was destroyed by fire in 1919. This predates the current church dedicated in 1997. The Independence Graded and High School, shown on a 1920 postcard, served children from first grade through high school before Simon Kenton High School and Kenton Elementary were built. The original building had a bell tower until it was destroyed by fire, and had a gymnasium in the rear of the building. Since the closing of the school, the building has served as a flea market, apartment building, art studio and Buddhist center. It still stands next to the Marathon near Independence Station Road.
