Carol Franzen, Council Member

I have been a resident of Independence since 1997 and was first elected to City Council in 2002. I am currently serving my eighth term on council.

I graduated from Northern Kentucky University in 1993 and earned a Bachelors degree in Political Science with an area of concentration in Public Administration.

My two oldest sons have graduated from Simon Kenton and my youngest is a junior there. Their names are Brad, Ryan and Jared. Brad is graduating from the University of Louisville Speed School in May and will be working as Biomedical Engineer. My son Ryan is a entering his Junior year at the University of Kentucky and is considering a major in Special Education. My husband's name is Mark. I have been the head boys and girls swim coach at SK since 2012.

I am an active member of Independence Christian Church where I currently serve as board chair and Elder. I also served a 4 year term as church treasurer.

Accomplishments on council include maintaining a balanced budget. Have kept tax increases to a minimum while also expanding city services. Worked to stop the building of the Kenton County Detention Center in Independence as well as worked with other citizens to successfully find an alternate location for the detention center and assisted with the completion of the Downtown Independence Small area study.
