Refuse and Recycling
The City of Independence has contracted with Rumpke of Kentucky, Inc. to provide trash collection.
Rumpke trucks are in the city on Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday. If you are a new resident of Independence you should call Rumpke directly at 1-877-786-7537 to open an account and make arrangements for curbside pickup. Rumpke should be able to tell you the day trash is collected on your street. If not, you can call the city office at (859) 356-5302 for trash collection day information.
If you experience problems with your trash being collected please call Rumpke at 1-877-786-7537. If your problems continue, please address your concerns and questions to the City Administrator at 859-363-2933.
Curbside recycling is available on an individual subscription basis for $4.05 per unit, per month. You will need to contact Rumpke directly to receive a container. Please allow 7-10 working days for the recycling bin to arrive.
If you collect recyclable items, but do not want to subscribe to curbside recycling, you can take your recyclables to a bin located in the Banklick Woods Park at 420 Independence Station Road.
