Independence Kentucky Mountain Bike Patrol

The Independence Police Mountain Bike Patrol Unit is comprised of officers that are equipped with specially designed mountain bikes. These officers patrol the various side streets and off road paths in the city. These officers are assigned to different sections of the city at different times to provide more coverage. While on the bike, an officer is able to sneak up on unsuspecting drug users and dealers. Officers have made several arrests while on bike patrol.

The equipment and necessary overtime are provided for by a grant from the Kentucky Justice Cabinet for Community Crime Prevention.

Officers in the Bike Unit are sent to the Cincinnati Police Mountain Bike Course. The instructors teach the fundamentals of bicycle control over many different surfaces and conditions.
