ACCOMPLISHMENTS AS MAYOR
  • Work with our State Senators and Representatives for grant monies and infrastructure projects such as sidewalks, Route 17 expansion, Route 16 and Route 536 projects.

  • Proud to serve as Mayor for our Accredited Police Department.

  • Collaboration with County and State officials to fund widening of Industrial Road.

  • Initiated the Small Area Study to help plan and manage for growth in core center of town.

  • Sidewalks installed from Simon Kenton High School to Summit View Middle Schools.

  • Expanded Public Works Department and purchased new public maintenance building.

  • Completed our new city building under budget. Prior to the new building, council chambers and our police department were in rented space separate from the city offices.

  • Worked with dozens of developers to bring additional retail services to Independence.

  • Expanded fireworks celebration during July 4th holiday to two days. Event now attracts over 15,000 visitors during the celebration.

  • Partnered with local Independence Business Association to expand annual Christmas Walk to include lighted parade and Courthouse Square area.

  • Completed the amphitheater in 2003 under budget.

  • Improved city park system by adding restrooms and recreational equipment and irrigation systems.

It has truly been an honor and a rewarding experience to serve our city as a council member and Mayor for the past 12 years. I will continue to work for our city in keeping our small town feel, while bringing the services our growing community requires.

I am always conscience of the reasons people love Independence including our schools, safe neighborhoods, low taxes and growing retail service sector. My staff and I work hard to be as fiscally efficient with your tax dollars, as we do with our own family budgets.

Thank you for taking the time to read and learn more about your city. Feel free to email me with any questions or comments to mayor@cityofindependence.org.

Best personal regards,

Christian J. Moriconi
Mayor, City of Independence
