Donna Yeager was elected to City Council in 1999.

Donna Yeager, a resident of Independence for over 35 years, has been involved in the community for many years. She is currently serving her fourth term on the City Council.

Donna and her late husband Sam have 5 children. Sam died in 1989 and 1 daughter, Stacey Lynne died in March 2007. Donna has twelve grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She graduated from Dixie Heights High School and received an Associate Degree from Thomas More College. She retired from federal civil service after 30 years, where she was the management-labor relations and human resources development officer for the US Army Corps of Engineers Ohio River Division, which exposed her to community planning and governmental resource needs.

Locally, she has been active for many years, beginning in 1972 with the Independence Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. She was also appointed by the Kenton County Fiscal Court to the Independence Fire District Board of Directors from 1992-2001, and the Kenton County Board to the “Council of Aging” in 2002-2003. She was also the chairperson of the Independence Recreation Committee from 1995-2001, which developed Sterling Staggs Park, Independence Park and part of Memorial Park. In addition, her committee developed and prepared the initial plans for the Independence Senior Citizens and Community Center, the Christmas Walk, the Fourth of July celebrations and developed the plans and funding sources for the Amphitheater which was totally built with private donations and state funds.

Donna’s goals as a council member are to ensure comprehensive planning for the future development of Independence, to develop resources, to provide efficient city services, to provide the facilities and activities for a high quality of life to its residents, and to work with county and state government officials to communicate Independence’s needs and issues and to ensure the city receives at least its fair share of county and state resources.
