About Independence
The City of Independence is located in the "heart" of Kenton County in Northern Kentucky. Independence, even though a rapidly expanding community, maintains its small town heart while accomodating strong urban growth. The rural setting of life in Independence sets it apart from other Northern Kentucky cities.
Independence is the third largest land mass city in the state of Kentucky. It currently encompasses approximately 23 square miles. We are also one of the fastest growing cities in the state. The population has grown more than 65% between the 2000 and 2010 census reports.
In 2007, Forbes Magazine recognized Independence as the 99th fastest growing city in the Nation.
